Quickie Camping Bread PDF Print E-mail

4 cups flour
1/3 cup cold bacon fat
6 tablespoons sugar
Milk or Water
1 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons baking soda

Mix dry ingredients. Cream fat in with a fork, adding small amounts of water or milk until dough gathers into a ball, with no dry spots. Press this into a flat pancake not more than 1 inch thick and dust the top and bottom with flour. Grease a heavy cast iron pan - heat it - and brown the bread on both sides. Continue to cook for about 15 minutes or until bread is baked through.

NOTE: I have had this recipe for years, and personally never tried it but foundĀ it interesting and plausible so I thought I would pass it on.
